The BJP in Karnataka is expected to drop several sitting MLAs and field Congress turncoats in the upcoming state elections. The party’s first list of candidates, which is likely to be released soon, will feature about 170 candidates. Chief Minister Basavaraj S Bommai will be contesting from Shiggaon seat, which he has held since 2008. Former chief minister BS Yediyurappa’s son BY Vijayendra is the party’s pick from his father’s seat Shikaripura. The May 10 election is being seen as a tough challenge for the incumbent BJP due to allegations of corruption and a leadership vacuum, while the Congress is battling infighting between factions led by its top leaders Siddaramaiah and state party chief DK Shivakumar.
The Congress party has taken a swipe at the BJP for not releasing its list of candidates for the Karnataka state elections yet. Senior party leader Randeep Singh Surjewala had asked why the BJP was “scared” to name its picks for the polls and suggested that the delay might be due to internal issues within the party. Surjewala specifically questioned whether BJP leaders like JP Nadda, PM Modi, Amit Shah, and CM Bommai were worried that announcing the seats would lead to issues within the party. It seems that the upcoming election in Karnataka is going to be a tough fight for both the BJP and the Congress, with each party facing its own challenges. While the BJP is facing allegations of corruption and a leadership vacuum, the Congress is struggling with infighting between factions led by top leaders. The election is crucial for both parties, and they will be looking to put up a strong performance to secure victory in the state.
