Mumbai will get eight more services on Metro 7 and 2A lines from May 1, providing relief for passengers who have been facing increased passenger loads. The trains, which were previously running at eight-minute intervals, will now be available every 7.29 minutes during rush hours. The decision to add services was taken due to the growing number of commuters. Mumbai Metro Rail Lines 2A and 7 were launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 19, 2022. The two elevated corridors connect western, central, and northern suburban Mumbai, reducing travel time by up to 75% depending on road conditions. Last week, Mumbai Metro Line 2A and 7 recorded a single-day ridership of 170,248 commuters.
Metro Line 2A and 7 experience high travel volume during the morning peak hours from 8:30 am to 11 am, and during the evening peak hours from 5 pm to 8:30 pm. During peak hours, both lines collectively see 40,000 to 45,000 footfalls in the morning and 55,000- 60,000 footfalls in the evening, as per MMMOCL. It seems that the Metro Line 2A and 7 in Mumbai experience high passenger traffic during the morning and evening peak hours. According to the MMMOCL, during these peak hours, both lines collectively see around 40,000 to 45,000 passengers in the morning and 55,000 to 60,000 passengers in the evening. This highlights the importance of increasing the frequency of services to cater to the growing demand of commuters.
