Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the party of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, has called for nationwide protests until his release. On Wednesday, PTI instructed party leaders, workers, and supporters to gather at the Islamabad Judicial Complex at 8 am.
The sit-ins and protests across the country will continue in their respective locations until Khan’s release. Meanwhile, PTI’s Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry said the party would approach the Supreme Court to challenge the Islamabad High Court’s decision to uphold Khan’s arrest. Chaudhry deemed the ruling “surprising,” as the arrest without a decision on bail beforehand was illegal.
Khan was arrested outside Islamabad High Court on Tuesday by Rangers on the National Accountability Bureau’s warrant in the Al-Qadir Trust case. The investigation against Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and others is for the alleged gain of hundreds of canals of land in the name of Al Qadir University Trust, causing a loss of £190 million to the national exchequer.
Khan and the other accused allegedly adjusted Rupees 50 billion sent by Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to the government. Protests have erupted in Pakistan, with PTI workers protesting in various cities across the country, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Peshawar, and Mardan.
