The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has faced criticism from residents after a 48-hour water cut. The NMMC had previously announced a 24-hour cut in the water supply on April 6 for April 10, as it planned to shift the Morbe main pipeline for the Panvel-Karjat railway line and cross the water supply mainline at the Diva-Panvel railway line below the expressway bridge at Kalamboli. The engineering department of the civic body also decided to do maintenance work of the Bhokarpada water treatment plant and Morbe dam to Digha main pipeline. The water supply was supposed to resume after 10 pm on April 11. Koparkhairane, Belapur and Ghansoli areas were affected the most due to the disruption in the water supply. Residents have criticized the timing of the maintenance work and the mismanagement of the situation. Senior officials of the water department have assured residents that the situation will be resolved soon. The residents of Koparkhairane are facing a severe water crisis as the water supply was disrupted for 48 hours due to the maintenance work of the Bhokarpada water treatment plant and Morbe dam to Digha main pipeline. According to BN Kumar, a resident of Koparkhairane, the water supply should have been restored by 11 am on Tuesday, but even on Wednesday, not a single drop of water was released. They had to arrange for a tanker on Tuesday, which was barely sufficient to cater to 446 flats. The residents had to look for alternatives again on Wednesday morning. The situation is causing distress to the residents, and they are demanding answers from the administration for the prolonged disruption in the water supply. It seems that while Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has not imposed any cuts in water supply, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has imposed a 15% cut in several areas, which is leading to a shortage of water. This is a separate issue from the 48-hour water cut imposed by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) due to maintenance work.
