The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), India’s largest paramilitary force, has stated that its in-house recruitment process for hiring constables in various categories has always been conducted in Hindi and English only. The statement came in the wake of opposition from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin and Senior Congress leader from Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, who had demanded the inclusion of regional languages in the recruitment tests. The CRPF spokesperson mentioned that the force had never faced any problem with regard to participation of candidates due to language issues, citing past recruitment figures. In 2018, during the recruitment of constables, 819 vacancies were filled by candidates from Tamil Nadu, 3,460 from Andhra Pradesh, 2,349 from Telangana, and 1,586 from Karnataka. Similarly, in 2021, 816 vacancies were filled from Tamil Nadu, 1,296 from Andhra Pradesh, 574 from Telangana, and 719 from Karnataka.
According to the CRPF spokesperson, the force has never faced any issues related to language problems with regard to participation of candidates in their recruitment process. The spokesperson also provided figures from previous recruitment cycles, which show that candidates from southern states such as Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh have participated in the recruitment process normally, even though the computer-based tests were conducted in English and Hindi only.According to the spokesperson, in the recruitment of constables (general duty) in 2018, 819 vacancies were filled by candidates from Tamil Nadu, 3,460 from Andhra Pradesh, 2,349 from Telangana, and 1,586 vacancies were filled from Karnataka.
