Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the Chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP, has responded positively to the call for him to undergo narco-analysis to address allegations of sexual harassment. However, he has placed a condition on this willingness. Singh stated in a Facebook post that he is prepared to undergo the narco test, polygraph test, or lie detector test, but only if wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia also agree to take these tests. He suggested that if the two wrestlers are willing to undergo the tests, a joint announcement should be made in the presence of the press.
The wrestlers’ protests against Singh have gained momentum, with farmers from Haryana joining in to show their support. A khap panchayat meeting in Haryana’s Meham recently passed a resolution demanding that Singh undergo a narco test and face legal action. Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, and Sakshee Mallik, among other top wrestlers, have been protesting at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar since April, accusing the WFI chief of sexual harassment and demanding his arrest.
Singh, on the other hand, has vehemently denied the allegations and accused the wrestlers of conspiring against him.
On April 29, two separate police cases were registered after the Supreme Court issued a notice to the Delhi Police. The police have submitted a status report, informing the court that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the matter.
Later, Singh mentioned that he had wanted to retire from politics in 2014 but continued at the insistence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. “I wanted to retire from politics in 2014. But Amit Shah, during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, did not allow me to do that,” he stated, according to news agency Press Trust of India.
Currently serving as the BJP MP from Kaiserganj, Singh has been engaging with people and participating in various programs in his Lok Sabha constituency of Gonda. He has been seeking people’s support for the Chetna Maha rally, which is scheduled to take place in Ayodhya on June 5.
When asked about the allegations made by the wrestlers, Singh responded, “If someone decides to tell lies, they can do so.”
The controversy surrounding the allegations of sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh continues to unfold, with the demand for narco-analysis tests now being made by Singh himself, with the condition that the wrestlers involved also undergo the tests. The issue remains under investigation, and further developments are expected in the coming days.
