The Delhi government has taken action against private schools for charging exorbitant prices for books and uniforms, following complaints from parents. Show-cause notices have been sent to 12 schools, and an inquiry has been initiated against six others. The Education Department had issued strict guidelines to schools on the sale of books and uniforms on March 17, stating that schools must display a class-wise list of books and study materials on their websites before the beginning of the new academic session. The guidelines also state that schools cannot compel parents to purchase from a particular vendor and cannot change the design or specifications of school uniforms for at least three years. The Delhi Education Minister has warned that strict action will be taken against schools that violate the guidelines. Additionally, schools must also display at least five nearby shops’ addresses and phone numbers on their websites where parents can purchase books and school uniforms. Parents have the freedom to buy these items from any store as per their convenience, and the school cannot compel them to purchase from a particular vendor.  Education Department in Delhi, private schools are required to display a list of at least five nearby shops’ addresses and phone numbers on their websites where parents can purchase books and school uniforms.
