It is great to hear that NABARD-Bihar chief general manager Sunil Kumar is hopeful that all the famous delicacies and products from Bihar will soon get the geographical indication (GI) tags. As mentioned, ‘khurma’ from Bhojpur is liked by foreigners, and ’tilkut’ is quite popular outside the country as it is a unique treat made from sesame seeds and jaggery. ‘Balu shahi,’ a sweet delicacy from Runni Saidpur village of Sitamarhi, is also very popular in the country. Once these products receive the GI tags, it will help in identifying them as originating from a particular region, which will, in turn, help the farmers, manufacturers, and artisans associated with these products to earn more.
