Prime Minister Narendra Modi has claimed that his government worked hard to bring the northeast into the national mainstream and accused the opposition of neglecting the region and being credit hungry. Speaking at a function to dedicate the northeast’s first AIIMs in Assam, Modi said his government formulated policies by placing people first and worked with a spirit of service and dedication.
He stressed that his government had worked hard to ensure dramatic improvement in social infrastructure in the Northeast over the last 9 years, while pointing out that the Northeast had “suffered for decades under family-controlled politics, regionalism, corruption, and insecurity” under which development was not possible. Modi also inaugurated three medical colleges in Assam and launched the distribution of 1.1 crore Ayushman cards to beneficiaries who will be able to avail cashless healthcare medical treatment benefits up to Rs five lakh with these cards.
It seems that Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated three medical colleges in Assam that will have a total of 500 beds and 24 undergraduate departments. The three medical colleges will start with an annual intake of 100 MBBS students each, which will increase the total MBBS student intake in Assam to 1500. Additionally, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation of the Assam Advanced Healthcare Innovation Institute (AAHII), which is a joint initiative of the state government and IIT Guwahati. The AAHII aims to promote inventions and innovations in medicine and healthcare, and to nurture multidisciplinary research and development in frontier areas of medicine by merging engineering with healthcare.
