BJP MP Varun Gandhi took to social media to share two selfies he took with his mother, Maneka Gandhi, and a colleague from the new parliament building on the day of its inauguration. In a tweet, Mr. Gandhi mentioned that he cheekily asked the most senior member of the Lok Sabha for the selfies. Varun Gandhi represents Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh, while his mother represents Sultanpur.
The inauguration of the new parliament building took place today in a grand ceremony, with the participation of 25 political parties. Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over the event.
However, the occasion was marred by the absence of 20 opposition parties who boycotted the ceremony. They accused the Prime Minister of sidelining President Droupadi Murmu. Despite this, the inauguration proceeded as planned.
As part of the inauguration, a puja (religious ceremony) and a multi-faith prayer meeting were held to mark the opening of the new parliament building. Prime Minister Modi referred to the building as a symbol of the aspirations of the 1.4 billion people of India.
During the ceremony, Prime Minister Modi also installed a historic scepter called ‘Sengol’ in the Lok Sabha chamber, near the Speaker’s chair. This added a touch of tradition and significance to the event.
