Ajit Pawar, a leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), announced on Monday that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance will contest the upcoming Maharashtra assembly and Lok Sabha elections together to defeat the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance. The MVA is a coalition comprising the Shiv Sena, Congress, and the NCP.
Speaking to reporters in Pune, Maharashtra, Pawar stated that the top leaders of the MVA have made the decision to contest the elections together, and he, along with other party leaders and workers, support this decision. He emphasized that the MVA leaders will jointly determine the candidates for the elections based on merit, without considering party affiliation.
Pawar further explained that the significance of the MVA alliance lies in the fact that the constituent parties cannot win elections individually. Therefore, to defeat the current alliance of the Shiv Sena and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the MVA must come together and contest the elections unitedly, setting aside any differences.
He highlighted the need for unity within the MVA and stressed that victory cannot be achieved by contesting the elections separately. Pawar stated that if they want to defeat the current Shiv Sena-BJP alliance led by Eknath Shinde, the MVA must contest together without any divisions, which would ultimately lead to success.
The Maharashtra Assembly election and the general election in India are both scheduled to be held in 2024. By announcing their intention to contest the elections together, the MVA aims to strengthen their collective position and increase their chances of winning against the incumbent alliance.
