Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal, an actor on the long-running Indian television show “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah,” has accused the show’s producer, Asit Kumarr Modi, project head Sohail Ramani, and executive producer Jatin Bajaj of sexual harassment and outraging the modesty of a woman.
She claimed that Modi had sexually harassed her on multiple occasions over the past few years and that he had made uncharitable comments and invited her to his room for whiskey while they were in Singapore in March 2019. Bansiwal also said that Ramani and Bajaj had misbehaved with her on the show’s sets on March 7. She sent a formal letter to the concerned authorities, including the National Commission for Women and Mumbai Police, on April 8.
Modi denied the allegations and said that he would take legal action against Bansiwal for trying to defame him and the show. He claimed that Bansiwal was removed from the show due to misbehavior and that she had incurred a financial loss for the production team during a shoot on March 7. Ramani and Bajaj also denied the allegations and claimed that Bansiwal was terminated due to her bad behavior and indiscipline during the shoot. They said that she was trying to defame them and the show with baseless allegations.
The show’s directors also alleged that Bansiwal lacked discipline and was not focused on her work. They regularly complained to the production head about her behavior, and on her last day, she was abusive in front of the whole unit and left the set without finishing her shoot.
“Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah” is one of the longest-running sitcoms in Indian television history and features popular actors Dilip Joshi, Munmun Dutta, and Mandar Chandwadkar. Bansiwal plays the role of Roshan Sodhi on the show.
