The ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen teams taking risks and it is paying dividends for them, according to Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma. His team, which is the defending champion, chased down a stiff target of 200 runs set by Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday in just 16.3 overs. Rohit praised his team’s star performers including Uttarakhand pacer Akash Madhwal, who played a key role in restricting RCB to less than 200 runs.
Rohit said that in the last four games, teams have been scoring more than 200 runs and most of them are taking risks, which are paying off. He added that the batters are taking risks and their mindset is to do something special for the team, which is resulting in high scores.
RCB skipper Faf du Plessis felt that his team was 20 runs short and they did not capitalize on the last five overs of their innings. He praised Suryakumar Yadav’s 35-ball 83-run knock for MI, saying that he is one of the best and when he gets going, he is really difficult to bowl to.
The IPL has been a high-scoring tournament so far, with teams consistently crossing the 200-run mark. The tournament was suspended last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and resumed this year with strict bio-bubble protocols in place. The matches are being played in six venues across India without any spectators.
MI is one of the most successful teams in the IPL, having won the tournament five times. They are currently placed fourth in the points table, while RCB is in third place. The IPL has been a welcome distraction for cricket fans in India, who have been grappling with the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
