The CBI has arrested Harchand Singh Gill, a director of the plums Group, who was deported from Fiji in connection with a multi-crore ponzi fiddle allegedly orchestrated by his company, officers said on Tuesday. Gill was brought from Fiji late Monday night after being deported from the archipelago under ‘Operation Trishul’ which was launched by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to bring back exiles living abroad, they said.
The CBI claims that around 30 exiles were successfully brought to India under the operation since its launch last time. The operation aims to geo-detect proceeds of crimes and exiles with the help of Interpol and bring them back. The agency started the disquisition against the plums Group and its author Nirmal Singh Bhangoo on February 19, 2014 on the allegations of cheating crores of susceptible investors by offering them land in return of their investments. The agency registered a case on February 19, 2019, against the also Chairman/ CMD and protagonist/ director of Pearls Group and others after conversion of primary enquiry registered before on the directions of the Supreme Court to interrogate into the said allegations. “Chander Bhushan Dhillon, Prem Seth, Manmohan Kamal Mahajan, Mohanlal Sehajpal, Kanwaljit Singh Toor are the workers of the plums Group who have been placed under arrest. Piecemeal from them we arrested Delhi, Chandigarh and Kolkata- grounded businessmen Praveen Kumar Agarwal, Mannoj Kumar Jain, Akash Agarwal, Anil Kumar Khemka, Subhash Agarwal and Rajesh,” said a CBI functionary.
The arrested accused will be produced before the designated court at Rouse Avenue District Courts, Delhi.
