The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has recorded the statement of former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik in a case related to alleged fraud linked to Reliance General Insurance. Malik, who cancelled a contract by the company in 2018, was questioned for five hours in connection with the medical insurance scheme that was rolled out for Jammu and Kashmir government employees and their families. The CBI had named Reliance General Insurance along with Trinity Reinsurance Brokers as accused in the alleged scam. Malik had alleged fraud in the scheme, which was cancelled within a month. The CBI had spoken to Malik in September 2022 to gather more information about the allegations he had made against the insurance firms.
The case involves allegations of fraud in a medical insurance scheme that was rolled out for Jammu and Kashmir government employees and their families. The scheme, which covered around 3.5 lakh employees, was launched in September 2018 and was canceled within a month by Satya Pal Malik, who was then the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to reports, the FIR filed by the CBI named Reliance General Insurance and Trinity Reinsurance Brokers as accused in the alleged scam. Satya Pal Malik had alleged fraud in the insurance scheme and claimed that state government employees had also wanted the contract to be canceled.
In April 2023, the CBI recorded Satya Pal Malik’s statement as a witness in the case for about five hours. Mr. Malik had canceled the contract of Reliance General Insurance when he was the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir in 2018. The CBI recorded his statement as a witness after he alleged corruption against the company and others.
