Former Congress President Sonia Gandhi has accused the Indian Prime Minister and his government of systematically dismantling the country’s democracy. In an op-ed in “The Hindu,” Gandhi said the Modi government has a deep-rooted disdain for democracy, alleging that its actions demonstrate this attitude by “systematically dismantling all three pillars of India’s democracy–the legislature, the executive, and the judiciary.” Gandhi accused the BJP of egging on the rising tide of hatred and violence, alleging that the Prime Minister “ignores” these issues, and instead either ignores the most pressing issues of the day or offers platitudes and verbal gymnastics to distract from them. She said with the upcoming elections in several key states, the Congress party will take its message directly to people and join hands with all like-minded parties to defend the Constitution of India and its ideals.
It is important to acknowledge and address the issues of unemployment and inflation in any country, including India. Gandhi’s criticism of the government’s silence on these issues highlights the need for transparency and accountability in governance. It is not enough for leaders to simply ignore or downplay problems that affect the lives of millions of people. Rather, they should take steps to address these issues and work towards finding solutions that benefit the entire population.
Gandhi’s statement highlights the concern over the border issue with China and the government’s handling of the matter. She asserts that the Prime Minister is denying the Chinese infiltration and the government is blocking discussion in Parliament, while the External Affairs Minister has a defeatist attitude towards China, which only emboldens China in its intransigence. This suggests a lack of transparency and effective leadership on the part of the government, which could have serious consequences for the country’s security and sovereignty.
