A new report has been released by the UK Met Office. It predicts that 2023 is going to be the hottest year on record for the earth. Also, the global temperature can be 1.2°C average above the pre-industrial levels.
In case the forecast comes true then this year can be the 10th successive year where the temperature has risen 1°C above pre-industrial levels.
For now, the hottest year on record was 2016. It witnessed the ‘El Niño’ climate pattern in the Pacific at its peak.
What is the reason for 2023 being the Hottest Year?
A prime reason for the impact on global temperature for the past three years has been a result of the La Niña effect. As per it, the cooler sea surface temperature occurred in the Pacific region. Consequently, temporarily there was a cooling impact on the average global temperature.
Data for January to October 2022 reveals that the average temperature was about 1.16°C. This was for the pre-industrial era.
What is Climate Change?
Climate change has been a recent favourite topic for debate. But, we cannot undermine the significance of this topic because it is a real challenge that humans are facing.
Climate change means a long-term shift in temperature. Also, it includes shifts in weather patterns. It is something we witness at present when the west is facing snowstorms, deserts are having floods, and temperatures in summer are rising from 45°C to 49°C. Sometimes it’s a natural phenomenon like the solar cycle.
Since the 1800s, human activities have been the primary cause of this climate change. It is incentivized by the burning of fossil fuels. Consequently, the greenhouse gas emotions trap the heat of the sun, increasing temperatures.
Summing up,
Climate change is no more a concept. It has become a reality as 2023 could be the hottest year on record for the global temperature of Earth. For this, they need to work on cooperative policies and implement strategies that are targeted at reducing climate change impacts.
