Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s claim that he was “abused 91 times” during the Karnataka election campaign. In a public meeting in Tumakuru district, Gandhi urged the Prime Minister to speak about the BJP government’s work and future programs for Karnataka, instead of talking about himself.
He criticized Modi’s speeches for being all about himself and not mentioning the names of his party leaders or the work they have done for the state.
Gandhi emphasized that the election was not about Modi but about the people of Karnataka and their future. He highlighted Congress’s poll guarantees, including 200 units of free power to all households, monthly assistance to the woman head of every family, free rice for every member of a BPL household, financial assistance for graduate and diploma holders, and free travel for women in public transport buses.
Gandhi also accused the BJP of rampant corruption in Karnataka and taking a 40 percent commission in all kinds of work done by the government. He urged the Prime Minister to answer what he did to get Karnataka its right share of tax money, how he helped the state during floods, and how he tried to resolve the inter-state water dispute between Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra.
Gandhi appealed to the people to ensure that the BJP, which is “involved in 40 percent corruption”, would get only 40 seats and to give Congress at least 150 seats so that “they (BJP) don’t buy MLAs and bring down the democratically-elected government.
” The AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal and state Congress leaders were also present at the public meeting.
