Twitter, the social media platform that was purchased by Elon Musk last year, is reportedly in talks with Linda Yaccarino, an executive at NBCUniversal, to become its new CEO. Musk announced on Thursday via Twitter that the new CEO would begin in approximately six weeks, but did not disclose the individual’s name.
Yaccarino is the chairman of global advertising and partnerships at NBCUniversal Media. Musk purchased Twitter in October 2022 and has stated that he will remain executive chairman after the transition. He has also announced plans to transform Twitter into an “everything app,” including financial services.
The new CEO will have to address the fallout from Musk’s ownership, which includes an advertiser exodus, as well as a significant decline in advertising revenue. Twitter Blue, the company’s subscription service, has also seen little success, attracting less than 1% of the user base.
Musk has implemented some controversial changes to the company, including scaling back content moderation, allowing previously banned accounts to return, and cutting thousands of jobs. Musk already has a friendly relationship with Yaccarino, who interviewed him at a major advertising conference in Miami last month and called him “friend” and “buddy” on stage.
Twitter and NBCU expanded their partnership for the Olympic Games. Yaccarino has not yet commented on the matter.
