Google has unveiled its latest addition to the Pixel lineup, the Pixel 7a, during the company’s annual I/O 2023 developer event. The new smartphone features a 6.1-inch full-HD+ OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, making it the first device in the A-series to offer a higher refresh rate. The display is also protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 and comes with HDR support. The fingerprint scanner is embedded in the display.
One major upgrade in the Pixel 7a is the processor, which has been upgraded to the Tensor G2 SoC, the same processor that powers the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. The processor comes with 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB UFS 3.1 storage. The phone features Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.3, and NFC with support for global positioning systems. The phone also has a USB Type-C (3.2 Gen 2) port at the bottom.
The Pixel 7a has a 64-megapixel primary camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), which is a significant upgrade from its predecessor. The ultra-wide-angle camera has also been upgraded to a 13-megapixel sensor, and the selfie camera now has a 13-megapixel sensor as well. The phone has a 4,385mAh battery, which is smaller than the Pixel 6a’s battery. However, Google has included wireless charging for the first time with the Pixel 7a and it supports the Qi charging standard.
The Pixel 7a runs on Android 13, offering the Google Pixel software experience, and brings camera features like faster Night Sight and Long Exposure modes to the device. The phone measures 152mm x 72.9mm x 9mm in terms of dimensions and weighs 193.5g.
The Pixel 7a is priced at Rs. 43,999 in India and will be available in an 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model. The smartphone will be available in three finishes – Charcoal, Snow, and Sea, and will go on sale on Flipkart from May 11. As part of the launch offer, buyers can get an instant discount of Rs. 4,000 when purchasing the phone using HDFC Bank cards, bringing the price down to Rs. 39,999.
The Pixel 7a continues the more affordable lineup of Google’s A-series smartphones but with significant upgrades, including a new design inspired by the premium Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones, a new processor, cameras, and wireless charging. The phone is expected to be a popular choice among consumers looking for a premium experience at an affordable price.
