Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and a Member of Parliament (MP) from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has responded positively to the demand for him to undergo narco-analysis to address allegations of sexual harassment against him. However, he has put forth a condition for the test, stating that wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia should also undergo the same tests. Singh made this statement in a Facebook post on Sunday.
Singh’s response comes amidst growing protests by wrestlers, with farmers from Haryana joining in to show their support. A khap panchayat meeting in Haryana’s Meham also passed a resolution demanding that Singh undergo a narco test and face legal action. Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, and Sakshee Mallik, among other wrestlers, have been protesting at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar since April, accusing Singh of sexual harassment and demanding his arrest.
Singh has consistently denied any wrongdoing and accused the wrestlers of falsely implicating him. On April 29, following a notice issued by the Supreme Court, two separate police cases were registered. The Delhi Police filed a status report, informing the court that a Special Investigation Team had been formed to investigate the matter.
In another development, Singh revealed that he had intended to retire from politics in 2014 but was convinced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to continue. He stated that Shah did not allow him to retire during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Singh, who represents the Kaiserganj constituency in Gonda, has been actively engaging with constituents and participating in various programs in his constituency. He has sought support from the people for the upcoming Chetna Maha rally scheduled to be held in Ayodhya on June 5.
When questioned about the allegations made by the wrestlers, Singh responded by saying that anyone can choose to speak lies if they wish to.
