Congress party’s response to Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia’s criticism of Rahul Gandhi. The Congress accused Scindia of not being loyal to his former party and warned Prime Minister Narendra Modi to “beware” of him. Scindia had criticized the Congress for giving special treatment to Rahul Gandhi following his conviction in a defamation case and accused the party of pressuring the judiciary to stay relevant. Congress’ media and publicity department head Pawan Khera dismissed Scindia’s allegations as “laughable” and said that the Congress’ fight is a fight to save democracy.
Scindia was in the Congress for a long time and was considered a close associate of Gandhi before he quit the party and joined the BJP in 2020. In this statement, Pawan Khera, Congress’ media and publicity department head, is responding to Jyotiraditya Scindia’s criticism of Rahul Gandhi and the Congress. Khera is pointing out the irony of Scindia, who belongs to a royal family and is often referred to as a “Maharaj”, criticizing the Congress for allegedly treating some people as “first class citizens”. Khera suggests that Scindia should read the history of his own empire before making such statements. Jyotiraditya Scindia was a prominent leader of the Indian National Congress party and served as a Member of Parliament from 2002 to 2020. He was also considered to be a close associate of Rahul Gandhi and was a member of the party’s Working Committee. However, in March 2020, he resigned from the Congress and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), leading to the collapse of the Congress-led government in Madhya Pradesh. He was subsequently appointed as a Union Minister in the BJP-led central government.
