The Union Health Minister of India, Mansukh Mandaviya, stated that India has fulfilled its responsibility by providing medicines and vaccines to over 180 countries during the COVID-19 pandemic. He made this statement on the occasion of World Health Day and highlighted that the concept of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” is India’s heritage. He also participated in a walkathon with medical and paramedical staff in Delhi on World Health Day. Mandaviya has called for a review meeting with health ministers from all states to discuss the increasing trend of COVID-19 cases across the country. On Thursday, India reported 6,050 new cases in 24 hours, while the active case tally stood at 28,303. Several states in India, including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Delhi, have witnessed an uptick in COVID-19 cases.
It is concerning to see an uptick in Covid-19 cases in some states of India. Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu are among the states that have witnessed an increase in new infections. On Thursday, Maharashtra reported a spike of 41 per cent in new infections in just 24 hours, while on Tuesday, active Covid-19 cases in Tamil Nadu crossed the four-digit mark with 1,086 patients, when 198 new Covid-19 cases were reported. It is important for people to follow Covid-19 safety protocols, such as wearing masks, maintaining social distance, and getting vaccinated, to prevent the spread of the virus.
