The highly anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 final between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans was unfortunately postponed to the reserve day due to heavy rain. Not a single delivery could be bowled, and the pitch conditions were deemed unsuitable for play. The organizers decided to shift the match to the following day in hopes of better weather conditions.
While the forecast for Monday indicates a lower chance of rain, further interruptions could impact the match in various ways. The organizers’ primary focus will be on ensuring a full game takes place, but rain delays can result in a late start to proceedings or even the match being decided by a super over.
In the event of a rain delay, the match will begin losing overs from 9:36 pm. With each passing minute, the game will become shorter. The cut-off time for a five-over match is 12:06 am on Tuesday. If it is not possible to complete a five-over match within this time frame due to ongoing rain, the tournament can be decided by a super over.
In a super over scenario, both teams will have the opportunity to play a single over each to determine the winner of the final. However, if weather conditions prevent the super-over from taking place or if it is unable to be completed without interruptions, the team that finished higher in the league table after the 70 matches of the regular season will be declared the winner of the playoff match or final.
In this case, if the final is completely abandoned and a super over cannot be organized, Gujarat Titans will have the advantage. As the defending champions, they will be crowned the winners based on their superior performance in the group stage compared to Chennai Super Kings.
Fans eagerly await the outcome of the IPL 2023 final, hoping for favorable weather conditions that will allow a thrilling match to be played and a deserving champion to be crowned.
