The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is nearing its climax, with the final set to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The defending champions, the Titans, are vying to retain their title against the formidable hurdle of the Super Kings, a team led by the legendary MS Dhoni, who has won the tournament four times before. However, heavy rain in Ahmedabad has caused a delay in the toss and has raised questions about the possibility of the final getting abandoned.
To address this concern, the IPL 2023 final has a reserve day in place in case play is impossible on the scheduled Sunday. The cut-off time for the match is 9:35 PM, beyond which overs will be deducted. In the event of a 5-over game, the cut-off time extends to 12:06 AM.
If further delays occur and it becomes impossible to complete the match on the reserve day, the tournament can be decided by a super over. The rules state that in the Final if it is not feasible to schedule a 5-over match by the end of the extra time on the reserve day, the teams will play a Super Over to determine the winner of the final, provided the conditions allow.
However, if even the super over cannot be organized due to unforeseen circumstances, such as persistent rain or other interruptions, the advantage will go to the Gujarat Titans. The defending champions will be declared the winners because of their superior performance in the group stage compared to the Chennai Super Kings. According to the rules, if it is not possible to start or complete the Super Over without interruption, the team that finished highest in the league table after the 70 matches of the regular season shall be declared the winner of the relevant playoff match or final.
As the excitement builds for the IPL 2023 final, fans eagerly await the outcome of the match between the Titans and the Super Kings. Both teams have shown their mettle throughout the tournament, and if the rain gods permit, cricket enthusiasts will witness a thrilling showdown between two powerhouses of the IPL. Should the match face abandonment, the Titans would have the upper hand due to their exceptional performance in the group stage, providing them with a potential edge in retaining their coveted title.
The IPL has captivated fans worldwide with its high-intensity matches, star-studded lineups, and nail-biting finishes. As the culmination of the 16th edition approaches, cricket enthusiasts and supporters of both teams eagerly await the outcome of the final, hoping for a riveting contest and a fitting end to yet another exhilarating season of the Indian Premier League.
