Yashasvi Jaiswal, the young opener of the Rajasthan Royals, achieved a significant milestone during their match against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He became the second-youngest player to score 1000 runs in IPL, with Rishabh Pant holding the record at 20 years and 218 days. Jaiswal achieved the feat at 21 years and 130 days, with Prithvi Shaw occupying the third spot. Jaiswal’s 1000th IPL run came in the same match where he helped Rajasthan Royals to a commanding total of 214 for 2.
Rajasthan Royals won the toss and chose to bat first, with Jaiswal opening the innings alongside Jos Buttler. Jaiswal’s quickfire 35 runs off 18 balls provided the perfect start to the innings. He struck two maximums and five fours before falling to a slower off-cutter from Marco Jansen. Jaiswal’s opening partner Buttler (95 off 59 balls) went on to score the bulk of the runs, with captain Sanju Samson (66 not out) providing valuable support. The duo stitched a 138-run partnership in 13.3 overs after a 54-run opening stand with Jaiswal.
The SRH bowlers had a tough time as the Rajasthan Royals batsmen kept scoring runs with ease. Samson was particularly harsh on Mayank Markande, smashing three towering sixes in the ninth over that yielded 21 runs. Buttler, too, opened up after a relatively quiet start, hitting 10 fours and four sixes. The Buttler-Samson partnership kept the run-rate above 10 runs per over all the time, and they added 60 runs off the last five overs.
Buttler missed his century by just five runs as he got out in the penultimate over, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar taking his wicket after a review. Samson remained unbeaten, scoring his third fifty in the tournament off 33 balls. The Royals ended up with a mammoth total of 214 for 2 in their 20 overs.
In response, Sunrisers Hyderabad struggled to get going and eventually fell short of the target, managing only 175 for 7 in their 20 overs. This win helped Rajasthan Royals climb up to the sixth position in the points table.
Jaiswal’s milestone was a significant achievement for the youngster, who has been in excellent form this season. Rajasthan Royals will hope that Jaiswal continues his good run of form and helps the team win more matches in the tournament.
