Describing the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ led by Rahul Gandhi as entirely an internal matter of the Congress, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday said that his party Janata Dal United (JDU) will not participate in the ‘Padyatra’. Speaking to reporters after a program organized in Patna, Nitish said, “This is his party’s program” after some JDU leaders said that they would join the Congress Bharat Jodo Yatra in Uttar Pradesh. Every party has the right to travel.
He said that “a united opposition can defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.” When we will do our party’s program, then we will sit with them and decide how we will coordinate.” There is “no problem” with the “face of the Prime Minister’s post”. He had said that “I don’t have any problem”.
When asked about the recent statement of Member of Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly Kamal Nath that Rahul would be the party’s ministerial candidate in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Nitish also said, “I want to make this clear. I say it again that I am not a claimant myself. Of course, I firmly believe that more and more parties (opposed to the BJP) should come together, and such a formed front will win an overwhelming majority and form a government sensitive to the needs of the people.
In response to the question of journalists regarding the arrival of BJP National President JP Nadda in Bihar, the Chief Minister said that every party has the right to travel. He has come here on behalf of his party; we have nothing to do with that.
