The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) candidate N Nagaraju has filed his nomination for the Hoskote Assembly segment in Karnataka for the upcoming May 10 Assembly polls. Mr Nagaraju, who is currently a Member of Legislative Council, has declared assets worth Rs. 1,609 crore ($215 million), making him one of the richest politicians in the country. He has mentioned his occupation as an agriculturist and businessman in his election affidavit, along with his wife M Shanthakumari, who is a housewife. The couple has movable assets worth Rs. 536 crore and immovable assets worth Rs. 1,073 crore, while they have total liabilities of Rs. 98.36 crore.Mr Nagaraju in the 2018 Assembly polls had won from Hoskote Assembly segments from Congress. He was one of the 17 MLAs who later defected from the party that led to the collapse of Congress-JD(S) coalition government in 2019.
It appears that Mr. N Nagaraju, a Karnataka Minister and BJP candidate, has declared assets worth ₹1,609 crore, making him one of the richest politicians in the country. He has declared his sources of income as agriculture, house property, business, and other sources, and his wife’s sources of income as house property and other sources. Mr. Nagaraju won the Hoskote Assembly segment in the 2018 Assembly polls as a Congress candidate but later defected from the party along with 16 other MLAs, leading to the collapse of the Congress-JD(S) coalition government in 2019. He is now contesting as a BJP candidate from the same segment in the upcoming Assembly polls.
