According to sources within the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the party has decided to support the Janata Dal (Secular) in the upcoming Assembly elections in Karnataka, seeing it as a “natural ally.” BRS had previously considered fielding candidates in some districts bordering Telangana as part of a national expansion strategy, but this plan has now been dropped in favor of supporting JD(S).
A senior BRS leader, headed by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), stated that their goal is to ensure the success of JD(S) in the elections. Sources indicate that Telangana Chief Minister KCR is likely to campaign for JD(S) candidates in the upcoming Assembly elections in Karnataka, particularly in areas where Telugu-speaking people are densely populated. The elections are scheduled to take place by May, and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, who leads JD(S), has requested West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to campaign on behalf of his party. After the meeting between Kumaraswamy and Banerjee in Kolkata, a JD(S) leader reported that Banerjee had agreed to campaign in Karnataka and asked for a schedule to be provided.
