The five-time champions, with a total of 16 points, were dependent on the Gujarat Titans’ win over RCB to secure their place in the knockout stage of the tournament. The Mumbai Indians squad erupted in joy to mark their entry into the playoffs.
The Mumbai Indians took to Instagram to share a video capturing the exuberant celebrations of players such as Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Cameron Green, and Ishan Kishan after the Gujarat Titans secured a six-wicket victory over RCB. RCB’s loss allowed Mumbai Indians to secure the fourth spot on the points table.
In their final league match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Cameron Green’s remarkable maiden century, an unbeaten 100 off just 47 balls, and Rohit Sharma’s half-century propelled Mumbai Indians to a comprehensive eight-wicket win. Green displayed exceptional hitting, smashing eight fours and eight sixes during his innings. He partnered with Suryakumar Yadav (25 not out) for an unbroken 53-run stand for the third wicket, leading Mumbai Indians to victory.
Earlier in the match, relatively unknown pacer Akash Madhwal from Uttarakhand showcased his ability to consistently deliver yorkers at the death, restricting Sunrisers Hyderabad to 200 for 5.
With their qualification for the playoffs confirmed, Mumbai Indians will now face the Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator match of IPL 2023 on Wednesday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The team will be aiming to continue their winning momentum and progress further in the tournament.
