Opposition MPs in India are set to take part in a ‘Tiranga march’ from Parliament to Vijay Chowk after both houses are adjourned on Thursday. The MPs plan to hold a press conference at the conclusion of the march in order to highlight that the second half of the budget session was allegedly washed out due to the attitude of the government. Congress leaders have claimed that the entire second part of the budget session was washed out due to the government’s attitude, alleging that treasury benches stalled proceedings and refused to discuss the Adani issue. The opposition has been demanding a JPC probe into the Adani issue, while the treasury benches are demanding an apology from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his remarks on democracy during a London visit. The session is set to end on Thursday. The Lok Sabha proceedings have been facing disruptions since March 13, 2023, when the second part of the Budget session began. The opposition parties have been demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Adani issue, while the treasury benches have been demanding an apology from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his “democracy is under attack” remarks made in London. The government and the opposition have been at loggerheads over several issues, leading to frequent disruptions in the house.
Rahul Gandhi was not disqualified from the House during the session. However, he was barred from attending the remaining part of the Monsoon Session in 2021 after he refused to withdraw his remarks on the Pegasus snooping row and instead said he was ready to face any punishment for speaking the truth. He had accused the government of using the Israeli software Pegasus to snoop on journalists, politicians, and judges.
