President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Kolkata on Monday for a two-day visit to West Bengal. She was received by the state’s Governor CV Ananda Bose and minister Firhad Hakim. According to an official release, the President visited Netaji Bhawan in Kolkata on March 27 to pay homage to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. She also visited Jorasanko Thakurbari, Rabindranath Tagore’s house, to pay tributes to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. The President attended a civic reception in her honour at Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata on the same evening.
On March 28, President Murmu will visit Belur Math and grace the celebration of the completion of 80 years of UCO Bank in Kolkata. Later, she will visit Santiniketan to attend the annual convocation of Visva-Bharati. On March 19, the President visited the Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari district and expressed her admiration for the spiritually charged complex. Prior to her visit to West Bengal, President Murmu had visited Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Lakshadweep from March 16 to March 21.
It is not uncommon for political leaders and public figures to express their views on constitutional matters and to call for the protection of the constitution. In this case, the West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress leader, Mamata Banerjee, welcomed the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, with a tribal cultural program, which included traditional dance and music. During her speech, Banerjee urged the President to protect the constitution of India, which is the supreme law of the land.
