Priyanka Chopra, the renowned Indian actor, recently opened up about her wedding to singer-actor Nick Jonas in a candid interview with British Vogue. The couple had two weddings – a Christian wedding ceremony followed by a Hindu wedding ceremony – in 2018. Priyanka revealed that their Hindu wedding took place at 10 pm and was attended by Nick’s family who had just flown in from the US and were jetlagged. She shared that she could see Nick’s family nodding off during the ceremony, while Nick was glaring at them.
Priyanka also mentioned that their wedding was “done according to astrological charts and the auspicious time was 10 o’clock at night.” She went on to describe the magical feeling of holding onto someone in front of everyone that’s important to you and realizing that they are now your family.
In addition to the wedding ceremony, Priyanka also spoke about her experience growing up as an Indian in the US and the cultural appropriation associated with the character of Apu from The Simpsons. She revealed that people often asked her why she didn’t speak like Apu and why her accent wasn’t like his. She found it bittersweet and funny that The Simpsons had featured her wedding to Nick in an episode considering the show’s history with Apu’s exaggerated Indian accent.
Priyanka and Nick have been married for almost five years and welcomed their daughter, Malti Marie, in 2022. The couple has been very open about their relationship and their journey together. They often share pictures and videos of their family on social media and seem to be enjoying parenthood.
