Mumbai Indians delivered a dominant eight-wicket victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Sunday, effectively knocking Rajasthan Royals out of the race for the IPL 2023 playoffs. Reflecting on the Royals’ season, all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin acknowledged the ups and downs and extended his best wishes to the teams still vying for the final spot in the top four.
In a tweet, Ashwin wrote, “It was a season with a lot of ups and downs with the @rajasthanroyals but not the one which we would have loved it to be. Good luck to all the teams that have gone into the playoffs and those fighting for it tonight.”
As of now, Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants have secured their spots in the playoffs. Only one spot remains, and two teams are competing for it.
Royal Challengers Bangalore will be in action against Gujarat Titans, hoping to secure a victory and surpass Mumbai Indians in the standings.
During the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians successfully chased down a target of 201 runs. Although they lost their star opener Ishan Kishan in the third over, the duo of Cameron Green and Rohit Sharma took charge and unleashed a relentless onslaught on the SRH bowlers.
Green, in particular, was in sublime form and reached his fifty in just 20 balls in the ninth over of the game. The pair continued to pile up runs, with Rohit smashing three consecutive fours off pacer Umran Malik’s over. In the 11th over, they reached a century partnership, with Rohit bringing up his half-century in 32 balls.
In the 14th over, Mayank Dagar finally broke the partnership by dismissing Rohit for a well-made 56 off 37 deliveries. Suryakumar Yadav then joined Green at the crease, and the two continued the onslaught.
In the 18th over, Green reached his maiden century with a single run, guiding Mumbai Indians to a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad.
With this win, Mumbai Indians strengthened their position in the standings, while Rajasthan Royals’ hopes of making it to the playoffs were dashed. The IPL playoffs are set to be an intense battle, with the remaining teams fighting for the last available spot in the top four.
