Representatives of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) visited the protesting wrestlers at Jantar Mantar in Delhi and held discussions with them. The wrestlers have been protesting against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for two days now. The wrestlers had filed a complaint at the Connaught Place police station on Friday alleging that seven female wrestlers, including a minor, were “harassed and exploited” by Brij Bhushan in his capacity as WFI chief. Olympic medalist Bajrang Punia stated that they won’t back down until action is taken against the BJP MP and all parties are welcome to join their protest. The Delhi Commission For Women (DCW) has issued a notice to the Delhi Police to register an FIR on the issue. In January this year, top Indian wrestlers, including Punia, Vinesh Phogat, Ravi Dahiya, and Sakshi Malik, had held a sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar demanding that Brij Bhushan be removed from the head office and the Wrestling Federation of India be disbanded. They had accused the WFI body and its chief of sexual harassment and mistreatment of wrestlers.
