Cricket holds a special place in the hearts of Indians, evoking strong emotions among fans. Taking advantage of this sentiment, the delivery app Swiggy Instamart decided to playfully tease supporters of the Indian Premier League (IPL) team, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), following their loss against the Mumbai Indians. Swiggy Instamart tweeted that they had started restocking tissues in Lucknow, resulting in the tweet going viral and attracting numerous reactions from cricket enthusiasts.
The tweet from Swiggy read, “Guys tension mat lo, we have started restocking tissues in Lucknow,” and was posted late on Wednesday. Immediate reactions flooded in, with some fans referring to a recent altercation between Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Virat Kohli and LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir.
Several fans, particularly those supporting RCB, expressed their happiness, stating, “Most RCB fan Lucknowites are happy. So no worries!” Others applauded Swiggy’s cheeky tweet, with one user tweeting, “You are playing with fire Swiggy but good one.”
Some fans seized the opportunity to mock LSG player Naveen-ul-Haq, who had trolled Kohli after his underwhelming performance against the Mumbai Indians. Naveen-ul-Haq had posted an Instagram Story titled “Sweet mangoes,” which became the subject of ridicule. One Twitter user sarcastically commented, “Restock some mangoes as well,” while another user asked, “And mangoes in Bengaluru. Right?”
However, amidst the amusement and banter, some individuals cautioned Swiggy to refrain from such controversies for the sake of their business. A Twitter user warned, “Do you even realize you have a decent customer base in Lucknow, and you’re eating up your market share by getting involved in this circus of embarrassment? At least don’t destroy the hard work of the sales and marketing team of your employer.” Another user commented, “Pity that a grocery wala (grocery vendor) is trolling Lucknow because the market is more lucrative in bigger cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru.”
Mumbai Indians secured their spot in IPL 2023 Qualifier 2 against the Gujarat Titans after defeating the Lucknow Super Giants by 81 runs in the eliminator match on May 24. Although Marcus Stoinis top-scored with 40 runs, it wasn’t enough to secure a victory. After Naveen-ul-Haq’s four-wicket haul, the Mumbai Indians staged a strong comeback, finishing with a total of 182/8 in 20 overs.
