Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s leading IT services company, has denied reports suggesting it issued strict warnings to employees regarding its return-to-office policy. In a statement, a TCS spokesperson clarified that while the company encourages employees to work from the office for three days a week, it has not linked compliance to career or compensation.
The statement came in response to an article published by the Times of India, which claimed that TCS had started sending memos to employees who failed to complete at least 12 days of work from the office in a month. The memo reportedly warned of disciplinary proceedings if employees did not adhere to the prescribed roster.
TCS refuted these claims, emphasizing that it is eager to see its campuses bustling with activity and wants all employees to be part of the vibrant ecosystem. The spokesperson stated that TCS has been encouraging associates in India to return to the office for three days a week and that the results have been positive, with many employees already returning. The company’s objective is to have all associates work from the office for at least three days a week on average.
TCS clarified that it has not communicated any career or compensation consequences for employees who do not comply with the return to office policy. The company’s focus is on providing an environment where employees can collaborate, learn, grow, and develop a stronger sense of belonging to the organization.
Last year, TCS had announced that it would not allow employees to work 100% remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The company had sent emails to employees requesting them to work from the office three days a week. According to TCS, the model of calling employees to the office three days a week ensures that not more than 25% of its workforce is present at any given point, based on project requirements. The company considers this a phased transition from its Secure Borderless Workspaces (SBWS) to a more hybrid model, allowing most employees to work from the office for some days of the week.
