The DPRK’s central radio broadcaster reported in the morning that northern regions are to dip below -20 degrees F(- 30 C). The capital megacity of Pyongyang reportedly reached -2 F(- 19 C) before this morning, nearly 16 degrees F below normal. Coastal areas are also anticipated to see high winds, according to state media, making the icy temperatures all the more brutal.
The extreme cold wave comes as the country prepares for a major military parade on Feb. 8 to celebrate the 75th founding anniversary of the Korean People’s Army.
