Bollywood star Varun Dhawan has shared exciting details about his debut OTT series, Citadel, revealing that the show will feature unique action sequences and that the team will soon be traveling to Serbia for the shoot. Citadel is the Indian extension of Prime Video’s global spy franchise, produced by Amazon Studios and the Russo Brothers’ AGBO banner, and also stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
Dhawan expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “It has been amazing working on it. We are going to be filming in Serbia. We have a month-long schedule over there with a lot of action. It is a very big series, nothing like people have seen in India yet.” The show is helmed by filmmaker duo Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, known for their work on popular series like The Family Man and Farzi, who will serve as showrunners and directors for the Indian chapter of Citadel.
Citadel was initially launched with an American version featuring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden, and an Italian installment titled Citadel: Diana is set to arrive next year. Dhawan expressed his desire to deliver a high-quality series: “The makers are pushing the envelope. Samantha and I can’t be doing something mediocre. She is one of the hardest working actors.”
On the big screen, Dhawan’s upcoming film is Nitesh Tiwari’s Bawaal, where he stars alongside Janhvi Kapoor. Dhawan expressed his gratitude for working with directors who challenge him as an artist, mentioning his collaborations with Shoojit Sircar (October), Sriram Raghavan (Badlapur), and Nitesh Tiwari (Bawaal). He said, “Some of my best performances come out when I work with these directors as they push me. It is amazing and I feel blessed to be working with Nitesh. Bawaal personally is a film I am so proud of. It says something that is the need of the hour.”
Dhawan’s previous theatrical release, Bhediya, made its digital debut on JioCinema over the weekend, and he hopes for a warm reception. The film, directed by Amar Kaushik and produced by Dinesh Vijan, is part of Vijan’s horror-comedy universe, which includes Stree and Roohi.
Varun Dhawan is excited about his OTT debut in Citadel, promising viewers unique action sequences, while also expressing his gratitude for working with talented directors who push him as an artist. With the upcoming shoot in Serbia and the release of Bhediya on the digital platform, Dhawan continues to explore new avenues and deliver diverse performances in the world of entertainment.
