Udita Pal, the co-founder of Salt, a fintech platform based in Bengaluru, India, recently trolled a scammer who attempted to dupe her through WhatsApp. She shared screenshots of the conversation on Twitter, which quickly went viral. The scammer had offered Pal a fake job that required her to like and subscribe to a YouTube video to get paid.
Pal responded by sending a screenshot of a different YouTube video with a hilarious title “Caught some idiot trying to scam.” Her post has since accumulated more than 1,200 likes and several reactions. Users in the comment section called her chat “brilliant” and flooded it with laughing emojis. Some even shared their own experiences with scammers and how they handled them.
One user suggested Pal offer the scammer Salt for their cross-border payments, while another shared how they responded with a voice note containing sounds of them mimicking a giant vomit and loud farts before blocking the number.
The incident highlights the rise in the use of digital systems and how scammers have been devising new ways to dupe gullible people. However, Pal’s response shows that it’s possible to have a sense of humor while also standing up to scammers.
