After a brief hiatus, the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra spearheaded by Rahul Gandhi is set to recommence from Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal on Sunday. The journey, which commenced in Manipur on January 14, has traversed through Assam and entered West Bengal from Assam on Thursday morning. This political expedition, marked by both bus and foot travel, has garnered attention as it embarks on its route through various districts, encountering challenges and raising concerns along the way.
Rahul Gandhi, having returned to New Delhi during the break, is scheduled to arrive at Bagdogra airport in Siliguri at 11.30 am. From there, he will proceed to Jalpaiguri, marking the resumption of the Yatra. Congress leader Suvankar Sarkar mentioned that the journey will proceed through both bus and foot, with a night halt planned near Siliguri. The subsequent leg of the Yatra will take it to Islampur in Uttar Dinajpur district before entering Bihar on Monday.
About Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra:
The Yatra is set to re-enter West Bengal on January 31 through Malda, passing through Murshidabad, and is scheduled to exit the state on February 1. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has written a letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, seeking her assistance in ensuring the smooth execution of the program in the state. The Congress party previously expressed concerns about damaged banners featuring Rahul Gandhi in Jalpaiguri.
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the State Congress president, raised concerns about difficulties in obtaining permissions for hosting public meetings as part of the Yatra in West Bengal. The political landscape in the state has witnessed a significant development, as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee declared that her party, the TMC, would independently participate in the Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal, separate from the opposition bloc INDIA.
As the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra resumes its journey, it navigates through a complex political terrain in West Bengal, encountering challenges and engaging with the state’s political dynamics. The interactions between the Congress-led Yatra and the ruling TMC party, along with the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, add layers of significance to this political odyssey.
