The accident took place in the early morning hours around 7:45 a.m. in Shibchar, a town located in the Madaripur district. Police Superintendent Md. Masud Alam revealed that the bus was en route to Dhaka, the country’s capital, and was carrying over 40 passengers at the time of the incident.
Eyewitnesses report that the vehicle veered out of control before breaking through the railing of the newly constructed Padma river bridge motorway. The bus then fell a harrowing 9 meters, or 30 feet, into a roadside ditch, leading to the tragic loss of life and devastating injuries to those onboard.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene to offer their assistance and transport the wounded to nearby hospitals for treatment. The cause of the accident is still unknown, and authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
