Chief Minister Pramod Sawant paid homage to Vinayak Damodar Savarkar on his 57th death anniversary on Sunday. The Goa CM visited the Cellular Jail in Andaman and Nicobar islets, where Savarkar had served life imprisonment.
He addressed the gathering organised by Shabdamrut Sanstha in the presence of Chief of Shabdamrut Shri Parth Bawaskar, Grandson of Swatantryaveer Savarkar Shri Ranjit Savarkar, Young songster Mugdha Vaishampayan and Savarkar Bhaktas from Maharashtra and Goa. “101 Diyas were lit to offer paeans at the Cellular Jail.
Songs written by Savarkar were sung at the gathering. I feel blessed to get an occasion to witness such an event at the sacred place of India’s revolutionary freedom fighters,” he said. Sawant further said that he addressed a gathering held by Shabdamrut Sanstha, in the presence of the organisation’s head Parth Bawaskar, Savarkar’s grandson Ranjit Savarkar and Savarkar bhakts from Maharashtra and Goa. A freedom fighter, also known for hisanti-British movements launched in London, an activist, a leftist and a pen of books banned under the British Raj, Savarkar failed on February 26, 1966, after taking on a plunge of hunger strike a month before.
Pramod Sawant also addressed a gathering in the presence of Savarkar’s grandson Ranjit Savarkar and his voters from Maharashtra and Goa. Union minister of state for railroads railroads, coal and mines, Raosaheb Danve, on Friday said that the government would render all backing needed for the development of Savarkar Memorial in Bhagur, the motherland of Swantantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Danve was in Nashik to flag off the Har Ghar Tiranga programme at Bhagur.
Danve also flagged off the scholars’ rally organised as part of the festivity to mark 75 times after Independence organised at 10 am from Hutatma Anant Kanhere Maidan in Nashik megacity. The scholars had reached their seminaries at 7 am and joined festivity at the maidan amid heavy downfall as part of the ‘ Prabhat Pheri ’ organised by the education department of the Nashik Municipal Corporation. Analogous rallies were carried out by the seminaries in the pastoral areas as well.
