The MNM party supports EVKS Elangovan, who is an allied candidate for Parliament and his DMK in Erod East, Tamil Nadu. Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan said Wednesday that his party will support parliamentary candidate Makal Needi Mayyam in the Erod East by-election.
Kamal Haasan today expressed his unconditional support for the parliamentary candidate for the Erod East constituency in Tamil Nadu. He also hinted that the new move could see him join the DMK-led alliance ahead of the 2024 parliamentary elections. Kamal Haasan said the move came after criticism of the ruling DMK and parliament.

Ideology should not prevent individuals from seeking services The MNM leader was recently seen marching in Delhi alongside parliamentary leader Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, fueling speculation about a possible partnership between Kamal Haasan and parliament.
EVKS Elangovan enlisted Haasan’s help
Elangovan said on 23 January he met Haasan at Alwarpet’s office and asked for his side’s support for his pole. After discussions with MNM board members, Kamal Haasan announced his decision to support the parliamentary candidate. Kamal Haasan told members of the media that “the senior members of the party have unanimously decided to support the candidate of the parliament and the DMK alliance in the Erod East poll.”
Congress Supports Only Erode East in Bypoll
Asked if his party would support his DMK alliance with Congress in his 2024 general election. In response to this question, he said, “This decision only applies to this Erosion East Bypoll, and we still have a year to go about the 2024 general election, so it’s too early to say anything. Importantly, Party ideology must also be eliminated, and importantly, Kamal Haasan has repeatedly criticized the parliamentary and DMK coalition governments in the past.
