The purpose of Modi’s visit to Papua New Guinea was to host the third summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC). As the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the island nation, Modi aimed to strengthen ties and foster cooperation between India and the Pacific Islands.
Upon his arrival, PM Marape not only touched Modi’s feet but also extended a ceremonial welcome with a 19-gun salute and a guard of honor. These formalities highlighted the significance and respect accorded to the Indian Prime Minister’s visit. Sasindran Muthuvel, the Governor of West New Britain Province, who was part of the welcoming team, expressed the deep respect Marape had for Modi.
Before visiting Papua New Guinea, Modi had attended the G7 summit in Japan, where he engaged in bilateral meetings with various world leaders. Following his time in Papua New Guinea, the Prime Minister proceeded to Australia, marking the final leg of his three-nation tour.
