In a devastating incident that unfolded on Tuesday night, a rain-induced landslide wreaked havoc on a mining village in Davao de Oro province, Mindanao island, resulting in the loss of at least five lives and leaving 31 others injured. The landslide, triggered by heavy rainfall, engulfed two buses used for transporting mine workers and nearby houses, trapping residents and commuters in its destructive path.

According to provincial disaster official Edward Macapili, the landslide struck the mining village, leaving at least 20 people trapped inside the buses. Shockingly, despite the efforts of emergency responders, the toll rose to five confirmed fatalities, underscoring the severity of the incident.

Macapili reported that a total of 28 individuals were on board the buses when the landslide occurred. Tragically, eight passengers narrowly escaped harm by managing to exit through windows before the mudslide overwhelmed the vehicles. The remaining passengers faced a dire situation as rescue operations commenced to retrieve those trapped beneath the debris.
